Caged Civilizations

25 June 2008 130 views No Comment

Civilization is nothing more than a cage.  You are free to do whatever you want, – given that it’s okay with the cage master.  Freedom is, but an abstract concept to generalize the size of the cage, for there is no absolute freedom in any civilization.  Living in a cage is fine, as long as the population has control over how the cage operates.

Unfortunately, culture and social order have shaped our perspective of reality and we have lost sight of the boundaries.  We believe our narrow scope of permissible actions is absolute freedom, as we tread along our cookie-cutter lifestyles.  We no longer see the constraints of human potentials and accept the limitations without question.  These constraints are implemented in the legal code of the governing regime, economic structure, or simply by the status quo reflected by the media, in order to discourage undesirable actions.

The contented ones don’t see the bars, as they have been gratified and blinded by the glamour and flesh of the world.  The hungry ones can’t see the bars, as they are preoccupied scrounging for their basic needs.

Look around you, and see the limitations: single mothers need to work three jobs in order to sustain the living standard of a small family; the ills are denied medical help because they cannot afford it; people are dying from starvation from all across the world; innocent women and children are being bombed; phone networks are scrutinized; citizens thrown in jail without trial. It is a reality that the average population can’t bring about any major changes in the world.  These have become realities, because we stopped questioning if there are alternatives.

This is not about helping others, but helping yourself.  The reality has made us powerless.  We see problems, injustices, and looming dangers but not know what to do.

Human potentials are being stifled. Not because we are living in a cage, but because we no longer realize that we are, and stopped caring what’s outside, what’s wrong, and what can be better.  Brilliant minds and courageous souls are wasted, running wild in a rat race: constantly seeking more money in order to sustain their constantly increasing consumptions.

It is not until you identify the barriers of the cage, can you realize your true potentials.  Look beyond the bars and see what’s outside. Use your power to take control and transform the cage. Do not simply ask what you can do. This is part of the paralysis that we are facing looking for others to tell them what to do.  Everyone has different talents, different purposes.  See the cage and seek knowledge, justice, truth, and power.
